Search for robber still on

Officers with the Atmore Police Department and the Escambia County Sheriff’s Department thought they may have had a location for a man wanted in connection with an armed robbery last week, but instead nabbed two other Atmore men on drug charges.

Law enforcement agents executed a search warrant Thursday, Dec. 20 at 320 1/2 Fourth Street looking for 20-year-old Brandon Jones, who is considered armed and dangerous.

Scott Walden, an agent with the 21st Judicial Drug Task Force, said Jones was not at the location, but two Atmore men in possession of marijuana and cocaine were.

“Upon entering the property, a black male subject exited the house, ran about 15 yards and was stopped and apprehended.”

Walden said officers arrested 29-year-old Ricky Kraft when he was found with two bags of marijuana on his person totaling 21.6 grams.

Once inside the residence, Walden said 30-year-old J.L. Banks, Jr. was taken into custody when more marijuana and crack cocaine were uncovered. Walden said, in total, they uncovered three and half grams of marijuana in the home, along with 2.4 grams of cocaine.

Kraft was charged with possession of marijuana in the first degree, while Banks was charged with possession of a controlled substance and marijuana possession in the first degree due to a previous conviction.

Both men were transported to the Escambia County Detention Center in Brewton.
