Atmore’s Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7016 made the most of Saturday’s nice weather, hosting a car show, cooking food and holding a blood drive, all while working to raise funds for their local post.

While crowds ate and admired the many classic automobiles present for this year’s events, judges conducted their own viewings and compiled the list of this year’s winners while workers with Northwest Florida Blood Services and the Department of Veteran Affairs tended to those donating blood.

“We had a goal of 17 units,” VFW Commander Billy Gates said after the event. “We collected 22 units.”

Gates also announced the winner of the 50/50 raffle, James Barnett, who was not on hand to collect his prize, but won $81, while the additional $81 went back towards post funds.

Steve Long was the afternoon’s biggest winner, taking home the Best of Show award for his 1967 Plymouth.
