Atmore police officers are asking for the public’s help in determining the identity of the suspect or suspects involved in an apparent assault that led to the death of an Atmore man Sunday.

Police said officers responded to a call on the 80th block of Brooks Lane Sunday at 6:17 a.m., where they found Marvin D. Norman, 50, lying unconscious in the yard of a home. Police said his injuries were consistent with an assault.

Norman was taken by Atmore Ambulance to Atmore Community Hospital, where he was transported by Lifeflight to Baptist Hospital in Pensacola.  Norman passed away shortly afterward and police said an autopsy will be done in order to determine the cause of death.

Tuesday, Atmore Police Chief Jason Dean said investigators were still working to identify a suspect or suspects, but is urging the public to call Atmore Police Department at (251) 368-9141 with any information.

Dean said Norman did not live at the residence where he was found and there was no evidence of forced entry.
