Perdido couple nabbed for larceny

A Perdido couple is in jail in Pensacola today after allegedly attempting to steal more than $1,000 of merchandise from a Walmart on Pensacola Boulevard.

According to arrest reports from the Escambia County (Fla) Sheriff’s Office, Ronald Eugene Haager, 46, and Anna Trisha Hamric, 35, both of 56572 Bartis in Perdido, were taken into custody Sunday after attempting to push two shopping carts full of items into the parking lot without paying.

According to the report, an official with Walmart’s loss prevention noticed the couple acting suspiciously while conducting routine floor surveillance. After exiting the store without paying, the report reads, the couple was approached by the loss prevention official, who asked that they return to the store. Initially both suspects were cooperative, according to the report; however Haager fled on foot while being escorted back inside.

Hamric was taken back into the Walmart and Haager was detained by an off-duty officer at a nearby GNC location.

The stolen merchandise, 169 items totaling $1010.28 were returned to the Walmart.

Haagar and Hamric were transported to the Escambia County (Fla.) Jail. Haagar was charged with retail grand theft (felony larceny) and misdemeanor resisting a merchant. His bond has been set at $3,000. Hamric was charged with retail grand theft (felony larceny) and given a circuit court date of July 12, 2013. Her bond has been set at $2,500. Both suspects remain in jail in Pensacola.
