City Council approves grass, weed abatements

The Atmore City Council approved the abatement of four grass and weed nuisances Monday during their regular meeting, agreeing to allow the city to take charge and clean properties on a list that began with 55 addresses.

Code Enforcement Officer Greg Vaughn said the initial list dwindled down to only four properties after the city sent out formal notices to property owners advising them to rectify the nuisances. Vaughn said the remaining four properties would be cleaned by the city, with the cost of the work being billed to the owners. The addresses on the final list include: 0 Brooks Lane: 0 Carver Avenue; 211 Medical Park Drive; and 603 East Poplar Street.

• Approved Ordinance 2013-13, amending the language regarding posted speed limits within the city limits to bring the ordinance into compliance with state laws.

• Approved the renewal of a business license agreement between the City of Atmore and RDS (Revenue Discovery Systems), which, among other services, aids in collecting city sales taxes.

• Approved a special warranty deed for Patricia Ann Freeman for two parcels of land on 213 3rd Avenue.

• Approved the date of the 2013 “Taste of the South” event for Thursday, Sept. 19 from 5 until 8 p.m.
