County jail officer arrested

An Escambia County Detention Center correctional officer remains in jail after a Friday arrest for allegedly providing cell phones and tobacco to inmates.

Chief Deputy Mike Lambert said investigators arrested 21-year-old Sean Te’Andre Knight of Flomaton on Friday, after executing four search warrants simultaneously.

“We had received information that illegal contraband like cellphones and tobacco was being brought in by a correctional officer,” Lambert said. “Sheriff (Grover) Smith launched an internal investigation into the allegations and as a result, search warrants were served at an apartment in East Brewton, an apartment on Martin Luther King Drive in Flomaton and on Knight’s car and person. During these searches, investigators found items consistent with the allegations.”
