Reid State Technical College will offer two programs in Health Information Technology and Medical Assisting Technology in the upcoming fall semester.

Coretta Boykin, assistant dean of institutional effectiveness for RSTC, said students have the opportunity to pursue these programs at the Atmore campus, located at 201 Brookwood Road, as well as the main Evergreen campus.

In addition, RSTC has been approved to offer a Physical Therapy Assistant program, which will begin in 2015. The college is seeking approval to offer additional programs in 2015, including Culinary Arts, Commercial Food Services, Human Services and Occupational Therapy.

RSTC is currently expanding its Atmore campus, through a renovation of the second floor, in order to accommodate these new programs. The other programs that are available for enrollment at the Atmore campus include: Nursing Assistant/Home Health Aide, Hospitality Management (a new program), Basic and Advance Emergency Medical Technician (a new program) and Day and Evening Practical Nursing Courses.

Boykin also said that additional emphasis has been placed on RSTC’s high school dual enrollment programs, especially in the health careers. The college’s EMT program is currently offering an “EMT Cadet Academy” for high-school students in the RSTC service area.

These students will be able to enroll in college courses beginning in the 10th grade, with a dual enrollment scholarship through a grant from the Governor’s Office of Workforce Development.
