The Atmore Area Chamber of Commerce recently publicly recognized the city of Atmore’s streets department for the good job they do of keeping the city looking nice.

During Monday’s meeting of the Atmore City Council, chamber representatives presented a plaque of appreciation to superintendent Don Whatley and his team.

“They do a tremendous job for our city,” chamber president Ricky Martin said. “They instill a lot of pride in our city. We can be proud of what we see around in our city. They do a lot of things with us, the chamber, like our festivals and the events we do.

“You don’t see a lot of what they do, because it’s behind the scene. They don’t ask for recognition, but we feel like it’s time to recognize them.”

Sheryl Vickery, executive director of the chamber, read the plaque’s inscription.

“The Atmore Area Chamber of Commerce presents this to the public works department of the city of Atmore, in grateful appreciation for your outstanding service and dedication displayed toward our chamber of commerce and our city,” Vickery said.
