Glenn Carlee, public safety director for the city of Atmore, said that the fight occurred at a recently opened banquet hall on Sunset Drive, behind the Atmore Flea Market. Carlee said that the owner of the building has agreed to close the club.

Brooks said that officers with the APD responded to a call for assistance at approximately 3 a.m. Saturday, after learning there was a crowd gathering that would not disperse.

Upon the officers’ arrival, they witnessed a large crowd gathered, and several people were involved in a fight, Brooks said.

Brooks said that officers attempted to break up the fight, but Knight refused to comply and charged one of the officers, assaulting him.
