The Atmore Police Department is looking for a juvenile who was involved in a shooting at Patterson Street Apartments on Wednesday, according to officials.

Chief Chuck Brooks said on May 14 at approximately 10:28 p.m., the APD responded to the apartments, where a male subject was shot with a firearm.

“We learned during the investigation that a juvenile, dressed in a hoodie, walked up to the apartment where Keylen Anthony Jones of McDonough, Ga., was visiting and demanded he come out of the apartment,” Brooks said in a release. “Witnesses at the scene stated the juvenile was armed with a handgun.”

Brooks said witnesses said Jones exited the apartment and was immediately struck in the head by the armed juvenile.

“Witnesses said when Jones attempted to run back in the apartment, the juvenile fired a round striking Jones in the right side,” he said. “Witnesses then said the juvenile then fled the scene.”

Brooks said an attempted murder warrant has been issued for the juvenile.

Jones was treated at Atmore Community Hospital and later transported to the University of South Alabama Medical Center in Mobile.
