Alabama Power Co. crews are working to make some needed improvements in the Atmore area.

Crews are inspecting and if necessary, replacing power poles and transformers to deliver more reliable and efficient power, Alabama Power External Affairs Manager Beth Thomas said.

Thomas said the work began late 2016, and will continue through 2018.

Motorists driving around Atmore may have noticed AP crews erecting new poles marked with orange caps.

Thomas said over the next few weeks, the crews will be working from the intersection of Highways 21 and 31, and south on Highway 21 to Craig Street.

“At this time, we have 12 people working on the project in Atmore,” Thomas said. “During the time that this work is going on, there may be some scheduled outages required so that we can safely perform this work.

“We will use postcards to notify customers,” she said. “We’ll make as minimal of an impact as possible.”

In the end, the improvements will help make Atmore more efficient, energy wise, Thomas said.

“We really appreciate everyone’s patience as we work to make these improvements that will benefit our customers in Atmore as we move forward,” she said.
