City adopts budget

The Atmore City Council adopted the city’s $11,451,300 operating budget for fiscal year 2017-18 at its meeting Monday night.

The following is a list of expenses for each part of the city’s budget:

• general government — $1,435,720

• municipal court — $229,300

• building and inspection — $296,500

• cemetery — $234,100

• police department — $2,780,700

• fire department — $1,324,100

• street and sanitation — $1,601,500

• park and recreation — $257,200

• library — $260,500

• subsidies and approprations — $2,561,530

• airport — $79,700

• beautification — $169,050

• landfill — $221,400

In other business, the city council:

• was presented a POW MIA flag by the Atmore VFW Auxiliary in appreciation for the city’s support of the organization and for local veterans;

• approved the housing authority reappointment of Vasaroy Johnson;

• accepted police vehicle bids of five Ford Explorers worth $26,668.08 from Johnson Ford; and,

• approved an ABC license to Gather.
