Two house fires occurred on the same street in Atmore on Sept. 29-30, according to fire officials.

The first house fire occurred at 79 Martin St. on Friday, and Chief Ronald Peebles said the house was deemed a total loss.

Peebles said the cause of the fire was an electrical short in the wall. He said all residents were outside of the house when the fire occurred.

As a result of the fire and the excessive heat that afternoon, two firefighters went to the hospital for heat exhaustion, Peebles said. Both returned to work the next day.

Firefighters cleared the scene at 4:07 p.m., more than an hour and a half after the AFD received the call.

The second fire occurred at 69 Martin St., and it took almost two hours to extinguish. A cause is yet to be determined, Peebles said.

Peebles said no one was injured in the second fire as well.
