Jesse D. “J.D.” Rigby

ATMORE – Mr. Jesse D. “J.D.” Rigby passed away on Friday, May 14, 2010 at The Meadows Assisted Living in Atmore.

He was born in Oak Grove, Fla. on May 30, 1914 to the late Jesse L. and Ervie R.Rigby. He lived there his entire life until moving to The Meadows in February 2010. He was a farmer and then worked for 21 years as a Deputy with the Escambia County Florida Sheriff’s Department. After retirement he and his wife, Erma enjoyed many years of camping, fishing, and traveling to every state in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand and the Fiji Islands. He was a member of Century Masonic Lodge #213 and the Scottish Rite of Pensacola.

His wife of 60 years, Erma S. Rigby; his parents, and four brothers and sisters preceded him in death.

Mr. Rigby is survived by sons, Jesse Wendell and Margo Rigby of Pensacola, Fla., Ronald B. and Suzanne Rigby of Byrneville, Fla. and daughter, Jackie and Billy Darby of Oak Grove, Fla.; six grandchildren; two step grandchildren; four great grandchildren; three step great grandchildren; a sister, Ervie R. Hall of Pensacola, Fla. and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday morning at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home with the Rev. Earle Green and the Rev. Dennis Brown officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery in Oak Grove, Fla. Visitation will be held Sunday evening from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home.

The family would like to thank the staff of The Meadows Assisted Living, the nurse’s aides and staff of Comfort Care Hospice, his sitters, Karen, Judy, Celene and Sheila and Dr. Jonah McIntyre for their care and compassion during his illness.
