An Atmore woman was injured Tuesday afternoon when the car she was driving left the roadway and crashed into a ravine on Forest Hill Drive.

According to Atmore Police Department officers on the scene, Julie Jay Norwood lost control of her Mercury Mystique GS around 12:32 p.m. as she entered Forest Hill Drive off Brookwood Drive, ran off the roadway and came to rest in a watery ravine. Norwood was trapped in the vehicle for nearly half an hour as rescue personnel with the Atmore Fire Department worked to open the driver side door to free her from the vehicle. David Gibbs with David’s Paint & Body was able to use his tow truck to move the car up the ravine so the door could be opened.

After being placed on a backboard, paramedics with Atmore Ambulance transported Norwood to Atmore Community Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
