The announcement of a possible new producing oil well in the Butler Street area may be forthcoming this week.
Dave Bolin, deputy director for the Alabama Gas and Oil Board, told the Advance that Chunn 12-10 unit located about 3-4 miles north of the prolific Mason Property well on Butler Street has logged and run production casing at 15,065 feet toward a permit depth of 15,000 feet. If the well does become a producer it would be the third successful unit in a 3-4 square mile area.
This well is being drilled by Pruet Production Company of Jackson, Miss.
Renassance Drilling brought in a producing well 2-3 weeks ago. It is located on Alabama 42 between I-65 and Brewton.
Venture Drilling Company is preparing to perforate its Blackstone 4-4 No.1 well located west of the two producers on Wayside Grocery Road. Drilling had reached 15,975 feet toward a 16,000 feet permit depth.
Venture also has staked out a new drilling site on Mack Lands (1-1) near McCullough. Venture was down to nearly 4000 ft on its State Farm 2-1 unit located between the Mason and Hauss Nursery producers.
Venture is also nearing completion of a gas plant on Wayside Grocery Road to be used for gas processing from the Mason well.
Bolin said the Blackstone-Indigo 10-10 well near Huxford was being plugged. Carrizo Oil and Gas is drilling this well.
One unofficial source said this week that leasing is expected to increase in the State Farm, Huxford and Butler Street areas. One oilman told the Advance drilling firms are “apparently trying to stay on a line with a westward movement toward southwestern Conecuh County”.
Bolin said one new drilling permit was issued this week. Located in Conecuh County, it is being drilled by Midroc Operating Company.
