Hair Plus Beauty Supply, which is located in the Atmore Plaza Shopping Center next to Winn-Dixie, is doing its part to keep Atmore’s residents beautiful.

Anthony and Cynthia Fountain have come all the way from Mobile for their business venture.

“We searched for a good place to open and Atmore seemed right,” Anthony said. “Atmore didn’t have a store in town that would be selling the same things as we have.

Anthony Fountain added that his wife’s experience in the field prompted them to open the business.

“My wife worked for several years in this type of business,” he said. “She worked with Yun Kim out of Montgomery and he was very willing to help us get started.”

Cynthia Fountain, who works from her wheelchair, has worked in several different types of business and has never let it keep her from being successful. Her husband speaks about her with a great deal of pride.

“I have never worked at something like this, but my wife has been doing it for 20 years,” he said. “She has plenty of experience.”

To begin with, the store has four employees, and is still getting new merchandise every day. They stock hair, wigs, beauty products, shoes, costume jewelry, belts, T-shirts and hats.

“Business has been pretty good so far,” Anthony said. “People are happy about what we have to offer.”

Currently the couple is commuting, but are thinking about making Atmore home.

“We have been looking,” Anthony said. “We haven’t been at it too much because we have been busy with the business. Maybe when things settle down, we’ll get around to making a move.”
