The laugh of Emmanuel Markay Rivers that has been “uplifting” to so many has been silenced.
The 19-year-old Atmore teen was killed in a one-vehicle accident near Flomaton Saturday morning when the car in which he was riding wrecked on County Road 2, according to Alabama State Troopers reports.
La’Constance Rivers, a sister of the deceased, said her brother was someone who could put a smile on the faces of everyone.
“Out of everyone in our family Markay was the up lifter,” La’Constance said. “If you needed a laugh he would give it to you. He liked hanging out with his friends and spending time with his nieces and nephews.”
Emmanuel attended Escambia County High School and had worked with Job Corp in 2008 and 2009.
The accident that claimed Markay’s life also injured two other occupants of the vehicle.
State Troopers reported injuries to the driver, Cardarryl Delloyd Johnson, 21, and passenger, Trenetra Zakiya White, 19, both of Atmore. Both were transported to Atmore Community Hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries according to Troopers reports.
The vehicle, a 1995 Ford Crown Victoria, apparently flipped and caused the injuries to those inside the car, troopers said.
Although Markay was taken from his family, his sister said there are no hard feelings against anyone involved in the accident.
“We don’t hold any grudges against his friend, the one driving the car,” La’Constance said. “God already had that time and place specifically set for Markay. God had already planned it out. No matter where you are or what time, when God knocks at your door, He’s bringing you home.”
The smiles and joy Markay brought to his family will be missed greatly, his sister said.
“I miss him so much,” La’Constance said. “He was my only brother. Me and him would just laugh and laugh. Markay was just a big joker. He was a tough cookie and I’m really going to miss him.”
Services for Emmanuel Markay Rivers are set for Friday, June 25 at 11:30 a.m. at Pleasant Hill Full Gospel Baptist Church in Atmore. Visitation will be held Thursday from 4 until 7 p.m. at Christian Memorial Chapel Funeral Home in Atmore.
