A prayer was answered for a Pensacola, Fla. resident on Saturday when his name was called as the winner of an automobile from Chuck Stevens Chevrolet.

Kyle Brown, a Philadelphia, Pa. native who moved south a year ago, was on hand at the Atmore dealership when his name was selected from more than 100 other registered guests as the winner of a Chevrolet Monte Carlo.

Brown, who came to Atmore Monday with his mother to pick up the car, said winning it means so much to he and his family seeing as he is the only one currently bringing in an income to his family.

“This really helps me a lot,” Brown said. “I work at Hemingways at Pensacola Beach, Fla., and I either find a ride to work or ride my bike, and it’s a 12-mile ride everyday.”

Brown was not the only person excited about his huge prize.

Carl Smith, owner of Chuck Stevens Chevrolet, said it was great for such a deserving person to win.

“We have been doing this promotion where we were trying to have someone win a car and no one was coming in,” Smith said. “When that wasn’t working, we decided to just give the car away, and I’m glad that Kyle’s name was chosen. He works hard, helps support his family and deserves to have a car to ride to work in.”

Brown’s decision to visit Atmore for the drawing was a last-minute decision.

Brown said he found out about the giveaway from a friend and found a ride to the dealership.

“I found out about this from a friend at work,” Brown said. “I asked a buddy of mine if he would bring me up here and luckily he was able to. It was just a spur of the moment thing.”

Once at the dealership, Brown signed up for the drawing and waited with all of the other potential winners.

Brown said when his name was called he could not believe that he had won.

“When they called my name I thought, is it really me?,” Brown said. “I couldn’t believe it because I never thought something like this could happen to me. Things are really looking up. It’s going to help so much being able to get to work without having to ride my bike or find a ride.”

After moving away from Philadelphia, Pa., Brown has enjoyed living in Florida and winning a car is bringing more joy to him.

Brown said he and his family decided to move when a family member said it could be a “good opportunity” for him.

“My brother-in-law lives in Pensacola, Fla. and he told me and my mom that we should move down here because it would be a good opportunity for me,” Brown said. “He thought it would be a good way for me to find a job, and it’s been great living in Florida.”
