To help keep the animals at Kirby’s Rescue Haven in the best of care, operator Kristi Kirby is reaching out to the community for support.
Kirby is looking to secure any pet-related items to help with everything from food to shelter for the animals at Kirby’s.
“We are looking to get dog food, cat food, cat litter, dog houses and any pet-related items,” Kirby said. “Right now, we go through 300 pounds of food a week, so food would be greatly appreciated. We are just looking for anything someone might have that they can give.”
Kirby’s Rescue Haven, which opened in July 2008, was started by Kirby and her partner Crystal Clanton.
In an interview in 2009, Kirby said there were animals everywhere that were in need of assistance.
“There was a just a lot of animals that needed help,” Kirby said. “It started with a stray here, an abandoned there and expanded from there. In one week, we took in four dogs and seven cats.”
Kirby and Clanton have continued to take in animals that need a place to go.
Kirby said the haven has recently taken in several more animals.
“We have taken in a considerable amount of animals recently,” she said. “All together, we have 46 animals right now. Most of them were strays and some of them were surrendered by their owners. They have come a little bit from everywhere.”
