Atmore’s business community has grown in recent weeks with the opening of Sabor a Mexico restaurant located on South Main Street next to Walgreens.

Sabor opened its doors earlier this month and is holding its grand opening today featuring a mariachi band at 5 p.m.

Santiago Gutierrez, owner of Sabor, said he opened the restaurant in Atmore because some customers had requested he do it.

“The opportunity came up, and we just wanted to present something different to the community” Gutierrez said. “Some visitors to our restaurant in Jackson, Casa Grande, liked the food, and told me I should open a restaurant here.”

Since opening their doors, the staff at Sabor has seen a steady flow of customers walk into the restaurant.

Gutierrez said things have been going well, but he wants to get more word out in the Atmore area.

“It’s been really good since we opened,” Gutierrez said. “We just have to do more outreach in the community. Everyone here likes the food so far, and they have requested liquor, which is holding us up right now. All the customers have been pleased with the food and the environment though.”

The menu for Sabor, which can be accessed on their Web site at www.saboramexico.us lists all of foods that customers enjoy at the restaurant.

Gutierrez said everything on the menu should be tried, but added that customers have their own personal favorites.

“All of the food is great,” Gutierrez said. “The fajitas, fajita burrito, camaronas la diabla and the rib eye steak are things that customers really enjoy. We have all price ranges as well from a $2 taco to the $25 steak. People have also enjoyed our cheese dip and guacamole.

With some success already, Gutierrez wants his restaurant to continue to see increased business.

Gutierrez said his goal is to bring something good to the community.

“Our ultimate goal is to become a part of the Atmore community,” Gutierrez said. “We want to provide good service, good food and good ambience.”
