NHS volleyball falls in opening matches

The Northview Lady Chiefs volleyball team opened their season Thursday with two matches.

In their second match of the afternoon , the Lady Chiefs took on the Escambia Lady Gators with the visitors picking up the win.

In the first game of the match, the Lady Chiefs made the competition tough falling by two points to Escambia 26-24.

The second game was much tighter with the teams playing to an 18-18 tie giving the Lady Gators the victory.

Against the Walton Lady Raiders, the Lady Chiefs fell in both games to give Walton the win.

In the first game of the match, the Lady Chiefs battled with the Lady Raiders falling 26-24.

The second game was another tight contest with the Lady Raiders picking up the game and the match 25-22.

Lady Chiefs head coach Betty Heaton said she had mixed emotions about her team’s performance Thursday.

“My outlook on how the team performed last night was mixed,” Heaton said. “I saw a lot of great things like hustle and good defense, but I also saw things that we need to improve.”

The Chiefs next match is Monday against the Pensacola Catholic Warriors.

Heaton said to be successful in their game against Catholic the team needs to have more focus.

“We play on Monday versus Pensacola Catholic, so we won’t have a practice before the game,” Heaton said. “Against Catholic, we need to really focus on communication and limiting our errors.”
