Soccer is in full swing at the Atmore Area YMCA where the younger age groups have already begun play with the 13-to-18 year olds to begin play next Monday.

The younger groups of players featuring boys and girls from three-years-old to 12-years-old have been playing games during the week in the afternoons and some teams also traveled to Brewton for games last Saturday.

There are nine teams split between the younger age groups and two in the 13-to-18 year olds.

Ross Terry, manager of the Atmore Area YMCA, said everything about the soccer program has been doing well.

“Things have been going great with soccer,” Terry said. “Our younger age groups have been playing games in the afternoons on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. The older kids will get started next Monday.”

Saturday games will feature Atmore’s Y teams against the Brewton YMCA with the teams changing venues each Saturday.

Terry said there is a special treat for the players coming up in a couple of weeks.

“We went to Brewton last Saturday, and they are coming here this weekend,” Terry said. “On Oct. 2, we are going to go to Brewton, and following the games the soccer players will get a hot dog and have the chance to swim at the Brewton YMCA.”
