Chiefs put streak on line at Freeport

Northview puts their undefeated record on the line this week when they visit Freeport to take on the Freeport Bulldogs, who are also undefeated in district.

The Chiefs (5-0, 4-0) are facing the defending district champions and hoping to get a little revenge after falling to the Bulldogs (4-1, 4-0) at home last season.

Chiefs head coach Sid Wheatley said he wants his team to have a good week of preparation to be ready for the game.

“They are the defending district champions,” Wheatley said. “They are very well coached and well-disciplined, so its a big game for us. They beat us at home last season, so I expect our guys to have a good week of practice in order to be ready.”

The Bulldogs will line up in a pro-set against the Chiefs Friday night.

Wheatley said they have some playmakers that must be identified.

“They do some great things offensively,” he said. “They run out of the I-formation a lot and have a good quarterback and a couple of good running backs that we have to contain.”

On the defensive side of the ball, the Chiefs will likely take on a front that hopes to stop their running game.

Wheatley said he expects to see most of Freeports defenders at the line of scrimmage.

“They’ll probably show a six or seven man front,” he said. “They will stack the line to try and take away our running game, so we have to go to the air more.”

On the other sideline will be Bulldogs head coach Jim Anderson.

Anderson said this year’s Chiefs team is better than the 2009 squad.

“Even though we are both undefeated, they are so much more talented than we are,” Anderson said. “Last year, they were good and had a lot of seniors, but this year they are an even better team.”

The Chiefs and Bulldogs kick off at 7 p.m. Friday in Freeport.
