With another shutout, the Northview Chiefs moved one win closer to earning a playoff spot after crushing the Sneads Pirates 28-0 at Sneads Friday night.

The Chiefs (7-1, 5-1) were able to secure another big district win thanks to big stops from their defense and huge plays from their offense and special teams.

The Chiefs first got on the board with sophomore running back La’Mikal Kyles returning a kickoff to get Northview on top 7-0.

Chiefs head coach Sid Wheatley said it was great for his team to notch another win.

“It’s really good for our team to get another shutout,” Wheatley said. “It builds a lot of pride within our defense. They played great tonight and only gave up one or two big plays.”

On the offensive side of the ball, Northview received big plays from their backfield as Roderick Woods was the team’s leading rusher and Montaio Mitchell as the team’s leading scorer with two touchdowns.

Wheatley said his offense had some good and bad spots in the game.

“Offensively, we did some things really well and did some things that weren’t so great,” he said. “There was one series where we were unable to put it in near the goal line, but luckily our defense came up with a quick stop and gave us good field position.”

Next week, the Chiefs play the Vernon Yellow Jackets at home.

Wheatley said a win next week will help with their chances for the playoffs.

“We just have to go back to work next week and get better,” Wheatley said. “We have Vernon coming to town next week in another important district game. This game will have some major playoff ramifications, so we need to be ready to go.”

The Chiefs and Yellow Jackets kick off next Friday at 7 p.m. at Northview.
