ATMORE – James Mitchell “Pooh Bear” Hamilton, 42, of Atmore was promoted to Heaven after a long battle with cancer on Thursday, Oct. 28, 2010 at his home surrounded by family and friends.

He worked in the construction industry, specializing as a crane operator. He was born on Nov. 21, 1967 in Homestead, Fla. to James David and Lena Madene Harvill Hamilton. He loved fishing, hunting and was an avid Crimson Tide fan, “Roll Tide.” He attended McCullough Christian Fellowship.

Survivors include, his mother, Madene Hamilton of Atmore; his father, David Hamilton; three daughters, Hannah Griffis of Walnut Hill, Fla., Cassie Overstreet of Atmore and Madison Hamilton of Prattville; one son, David Hamilton of Prattville; one granddaughter, Olivia Griffis of Walnut Hill, Fla.; grandmother, Peggy Harvill of Atmore; two sisters, Sherry Hawkins of Atmore and Sandy Mooney of Stockton; one brother, David Michael “Mike” Hamilton of Atmore; two aunts, Alene Colbert of Atmore and Peggy Joyce Maynard of Prattville and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

Services were held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 31, 2010 from Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Richard Daniels and the Rev. Cornelius Phillips officiating. Interment followed in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Active Pallbearers will be David Holsonback, Kenneth Hadley, Ed Wooten, Clifton Buckhault, Jason Wall, Danny Burkett, James Hamilton and Rodney Brooks.

Family received friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Saturday evening, Oct. 29, 2010 at Johnson-Quimby.

Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home, Inc is in charge of all arrangements.
