Atmore police remain on the scene at this hour sorting out details that left the driver of a vehicle injured.

According to witnesses at the scene a driver sped across an open field from North Main Street crossing to Ashley Street in the northern section of town. One witness said the driver had injuries that required transfer to an out-of-town hospital by Lifeflight.

Atmore Police Chief Jason Dean said officers are investigating the incident and will have more information following their work at the scene.

“We are still trying to sort things out as to what happened,” Dean said. “We will be able to tell more once we get everything sorted out.”

The identity of the driver was not made available this evening, but Dean said the male driver was believed to be alone in the vehicle at the time of the crash.
