“It’s always a great help to us because it gives us a starting point for the season,” Simpkins said. “The money from United Fund is always early, so it helps us with our planning.”

Like all other organizations, the softball league submits a letter requesting aid from the United Fund with the request being approved every year.

Simpkins said the funds always vary, but that the United Fund has been helping since she has been involved with Atmore Babe Ruth Softball.

“We submit a letter to the United Fund each year and each year they let us know what they are able to do,” she said. “I’ve been doing this for eight years and they have been contributing longer than that. It varies based on how much money they are able to raise, but it definitely helps.”

The funds that are given to the softball league help with everything from registration to equipment.

Simpkins said it always helps keeps costs down.

“The money defintely helps keep our fees down,” she said. “Our fees have been the same for several years. It also helps with equipment. The girls are able to keep their uniforms each year, which is good because it is souvenir for them because it’s a memory.”
