Homicide reported in Damascus community

Wednesday at approximately 9 p.m., deputies with the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office (Alabama) responded to a report of a possible homicide.
The reported location was 805 McGowin Hill Road in the Damascus community.  Deputies arrived to find the body of 46 year old Angela Susan Fleming at the residence.  Deputies arrested Jonathan Brian Fleming, son of Angela Fleming.

He was charged with one open count of murder and is currently being held in the Escambia County Detention Center.  Deputies remained on scene throughout the night and the case is still under investigation at the time of the press release.

Prior to the homicide there was also an incident at 8:04 p.m. with the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office responding to 2600 Old Hwy. 31, in the Pollard community.  The call was shots fired into a residence.

Deputies responded to find the homeowner, Melvin McBride, Jr, and his family members unharmed, but they stated that Johnnie Mark Brittingham and another unknown subject came to their residence and fired shots into the occupied residence.

A description of the vehicle was put out and deputies located it pulling back into Brittingham’s residence on Pineview Cemetary Road in the Pineview community.  Deputies took Johnnie Mark Brittingham, 42, along with his father, Cecil Rufus Brittingham, 70, both of 484 Pineview Cemetary Rd. into custody.

Firearms were recovered from a wooded area near the scene of the shooting.  Both subjects were charged with shooting into an occupied dwelling, a felony charge.

Both subjects remain at the Escambia County Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing.
