Business owners and insurance companies in Atmore have until the end of the month to get their business licenses paid to avoid additional penalties.

Mary Carter, revenue officer for the City of Atmore, said business license fees are due and should be paid by the end of the month.

“All business licenses come due on Jan. 1,” Carter said. “Those licenses will be delinquent after Jan. 31.”

Carter said licenses unpaid by Jan. 31 will be assessed additional penalty until the fees are paid.

“Any licenses not paid by Jan. 31 will be assessed a 15 percent penalty,” Carter said. “That penalty will increase to 30 percent for those licenses not paid by Feb. 28.”

Carter said the amount of license fees collected by the city fluctuates each year with some businesses closing down and others opening.

“We see some fluctuation each year in licenses,” Carter said. “Some places close down due to slow business and other businesses may open up. It changes some every year.”

Carter said the estimated revenue to the City of Atmore from license fees could pass the $800,000 mark.

“Last year, we collected $828,067.20 in license fees,” Carter said. “We are estimating about the same amount again this year.”

Carter said businesses and insurance companies conducting business in Atmore would be required to pay the license fees.
