SUMMERDALE – Mrs. Mattie L. Andersen, 96, born in Poarch and a residence of Summerdale passed away on Jan. 27, 2011 at a local health care facility.

She was a member of the Poarch Band of Creek Indians in Atmore, was a charter member and founder of Greenwood Community Covenant Church 76 years ago and was also a retired school bus driver.

Her husband, Raymond Andersen Sr.; step-parents, Hattie and A.J. “Bud” Steadham; four brothers, Jack, Savannah, John and Adam Daughtry; two sisters, Lola D. Presley and Mary Pickern, all of Atmore and one granddaughter, Brooke Lee Harris Buscaino, preceded her in death.

Survivors include one daughter, Deloris (Darrell) Porter of Summerdale; two sons, Raymond (Liz) Andersen Jr. of Summerdale and Arthur (Pat) Andersen of Summerdale; four granddaughters, one grandson; 11 great grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 31, 2011 from Greenwood Community Covenant Church. Interment was held in Wynn Cemetery, Summerdale, AL.

The family received friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 30, 2011, at Wolfe-Bayview Funeral Home in Foley.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to Greenwood Community Covenant Church in Summerdale.

The family sends a special thanks to Dr. Joseph Steele, Robertsdale Health Care Center, and Covenant Hospice.
