ATMORE – Robert Lavon Brooks, 99, of Atmore died Thursday, Feb. 17, 2011 in Atmore.

He was retired as a shipping clerk with a bread company, born in Castleberry on March 21, 1911 to the late William Robert and Daisy McDonald Brooks. He was a loving father and grandfather.

His wife of 69 years, Bertha Jackson Brooks; one grandchild, Deborah Marie Brooks and one great grandchild, Phillip Marcus Wooten, preceded him in death.

Survivors include three sons, Robert Lavon Brooks and wife, Patricia, of Hope Hull; John Wayne Brooks and wife, Debbie, of Vinton, La. and Michael Byron Brooks and wife, Carroll, of Montgomery; four daughters, Betty Sue Wooten of Atmore; Daisy Yvonne Smith and husband, Carl, of Brownwood, Texas; Louise Brooks Montel and husband, Dan, of Huxford and Jane Brooks Snyder and husband, Jeff, of Gainesville, Fla.; 83 grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren and special caregiver, Annie Brown.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 19, 2011 from the Catawba Springs Baptist Church in Brewton with Bro. Gene Pickern and Bro. Jeff Edwards officiating. Interment will follow in Green Acre’s Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be his grandsons.

Family will receive friends one hour prior to service time on Saturday, Feb. 19, 2011 at the church.

Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home, Inc. is in charge of all arrangements.
