Couple reclaims ownership of ‘cozy’ restaurant establishment

Lois and Buddy Crenshaw reclaimed ownership of a restaurant located at the intersection of U.S. 41 and U.S. 29 in East Brewton after getting out of the business a couple of years ago. The Old Cozy Café might be a new name, but it’s a business the couple is happy to see going.

Lois said the business is something she missed and was ready to begin again.

“We operated there as a restaurant for a while but decided to get out of the business,” Lois said. “When the previous owner was there I told him if he ever decided to give it up to let me know. Well, he did and that’s when we got back into the restaurant business. I really missed the customers and since I liked the business anyway we decided to jump back in.”

The Crenshaw’s have hired on Brian Marshall as the manager of The Old Cozy Café with business hours of 5 a.m. until 9 p.m. seven days a week.

“Right now, we open at 5 a.m. for breakfast and are open until 9 p.m. every night,” Lois said. “We will probably be open later on Friday and Saturday nights during football and racing season. Even though we open at 5 a.m. for breakfast, we’ll be happy to serve breakfast any time of the day.”

Lois said the restaurant has some items on the menu that are unique to the restaurant and even some area favorites.

“We kind of started the idea of gravy fries before,” Lois said. “We’ve got them on the menu to serve all day. We’ve also got some burger items that you won’t find at other restaurants.”

Unique to The Old Cozy Café are the A1 Burger, the Ranch Burger, a chili-cheese burger and the jalapeno burger.

“We’re also the home of the Cheeseburger Special,” Lois said. “That’s a good sized cheeseburger with fries and a drink for $6. Another special you can get any day is a grilled cheese sandwich and bowl of chili with a drink for $6.”

Along with the interesting variety of burgers, diners can find a lunch buffet Sunday through Friday at the East Brewton establishment.

“We have a different lunch buffet menu every day,” Lois said. “We have a lot of country cooking and local favorites on the buffet every day including a salad bar and dessert.”

With typical diner choices from sandwiches and salads, you’ll also find full dinners with choices of chicken, fish, hamburger or country fried steaks, pork chops, barbecue and even steaks.

“We’ve got a Valentine’s Special for our ribeye steak dinners,” Lois said. “A couple can come in an order dinner for two. Two steaks, potato, salad and a drink are only $20. We’ll be doing that on Feb. 14, just for Valentine’s Day.”
