JDCC softball sweeps Mercyhurst in doubleheader

The Jefferson Davis Community College Lady Warhawk softball team swept a doubleheader with Mercyhurst North East Wednesday at home to see their record improve to 7-9 overall.

JDCC won game one 6-2 and game two 2-0.

JDCC head coach Misti Nims said she is really pleased at where here team is at right now.

“The team is putting everything together and really working hard during practice, which has paid off over the last week,” Nims said. “After starting off 2-8, we were able to have a weeklong practice before going to Panama City. Since then, we have went 5-1. I am really excited about the way we have bounced back from a slow start. As long as we stay focused, we should have a great season.”

In game one Wednesday, JDCC used a five-run fifth inning to propel them to their 6-2 win.

JDCC trailed 1-0 after the first inning and 2-0 after the top of the fifth before getting the five runs in the fifth. JDCC added one in the sixth inning to get the win by four.

Brittany Linton earned the win on the mound for JDCC going the complete game allowing two runs, one earned, on three hits, walked none and struck out six.

Elise Schanley was 2-for-3 with three RBIs and two doubles and Sarah Dunaway was 1-for-4 with one RBI and a double.

Andrea Ruschel was 1-for-2 with a triple in the win. Rebeccah Wright was 3-for-4 and Brittany McCastle was 2-for-4.

Amber Steadham had one RBI and Nataline Moseley was 1-for-2 and Jennifer Morris was 1-for-3.

In game two, JDCC held Mercyhurst scoreless while plating the game’s lone two runs in the second and third to get a 2-0 win.

Jessica Myrick went six innings to get the win allowing two hits and two walks. Linton went the final inning for JDCC.

Wright was 2-for-2 with a double and Brittany McCastle was 1-for-2 with a double along with Kayla Hayes.

Steadham was 1-for-3 with a homerun and one RBI and Danielle McCastle had a one RBI.

Jones 9

JDCC 1

In other games for JDCC, the Lady Warhawks lost to Jones County 9-1.

JDCC was held to one run and one hit.

Danielle McCastle had the lone hit going 1-for-2.

Jessica Myrick, Loren McVicker and Laura Bishop all pitched in the loss.

JDCC 1

In game two, JDCC was held to only three hits and one run in a 12-1 loss.

Jones scored five runs in the first and six in the third to help get the win.

Dunaway was 1-for-2 and Ruschel had one RBI. Steadham and Moseley both were 1-for-1.

Myrick, Linton, Mallori Armstrong, and Jennifer Morris pitched in the loss.

JDCC 5

Lake Michigan College 2

Against Lake Michigan, JDCC held a 5-0 lead over Lake Michigan after the top of the fifth and held on for a three-run win.

Dunaway had one RBI in the win going 2-for-4 and Schanley was 1-for-3 with two RBIs.

Steadham was 2-for-4 with two RBIs.

Wright, Ruschel, B. McCastle and Morris all had hits for JDCC.

Myrick and McVicker pitched in the win.

Gulf Coast 14

JDCC 0

Against Gulf Coast, JDCC fell behind 9-0 in the first inning to lose 14-0.

JDCC had only two hits in the loss with Schanley and Wright both going 1-for-2.

Alley Smith took the loss for JDCC on the mound. Myrick, Smith, Armstrong, Morris and Laura Bishop all pitched in the loss.
