Renovations to the Boy Scout Hut on Carney Street are nearing completion with a new wooden fence being installed.

And for those who wish to honor former Boy Scouts or Scout Masters the Atmore Area Chamber of Commerce is offering sections of the fence for individuals to purchase in recognition of their loved one or friend, but to also help offset the costly renovations.

Members of Atmore Leadership 2009 adopted the renovation project, which will be featured at an open house ceremony next month according to Atmore Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Sheryl Vickery. She said fencing is currently available for purchase adding that sales have already taken off.

“The fencing is available in sections of either 6 or 12 feet,” Vickery said. “The cost, including plaque, is $75 for a 6-foot section or $140 for a 12-foot section.”

Grants for the renovation project totaled $30,000, but funds were not eligible to be used for fencing, Vickery said.

“We want to give anyone who would like to purchase a section of the fencing that opportunity,” Vickery said.

Each purchased section of fencing will include a plaque recognizing the person to be honored or memorialized.

To purchase a section of fencing contact the Atmore Area Chamber of Commerce at 368-3305 and provide information to be included on the plaque for each 6-foot section
