Busy weeks ahead

The next couple of weeks in Atmore will be busy with activities and events taking place one right behind the other.

Things will heat up next Saturday with the annual Relay for Life event taking place at Tom Byrne Park with several teams taking to the walking track to battle cancer.

One of the final Relay for Life fundraisers actually takes place today with a motorcycle ride beginning this morning at 8 a.m.

The ride will take a scenic route along Atmore and Monroe County roadways with the funds raised going to Relay for Life.

Registration will take place at Tom Byrne Park from 7 a.m. until the ride begins, so if you have a motorcycle get out there and hit the road for a good cause.

Once Relay for Life ends, the community will get a couple of days off, but then comes the National Day of Prayer on Thursday, May 5 at Tom Byrne Park.

This event drew a good crowd last year and hopefully the community will turnout for it again this year.

Be looking for a schedule of events for the National Day of Prayer in an upcoming edition of The Atmore Advance.

Then coming right behind the National Day of Prayer will be Atmore’s spring festival Mayfest on Saturday, May 7.

Mayfest is always a good event that the Atmore Area Chamber of Commerce sinks themselves into to make sure residents and guests to the community have a good time. Mayfest also features the opening day for Cal Ripken baseball, which is always a fun time.

It’s something that I always look forward to when spring arrives.

So the next couple of weeks are sure to be busy for the community and make sure you can get and be a part of the fun.
