Brewton men charged with teen’s murder

Two Brewton area men are in custody and have been arrested in the shooting death of a 17 year-old teen in Evergreen.

Akeem Green, 22, and Dominique Dixon, 25, both residents of the Brewton area were arrested and each charged with one count of capital murder after the 17-year-old, identified as Jered Derrell Dees, was shot three times. Dees was a resident of Evergreen and had been a student at Hillcrest High School.

According to Police Chief James Simpson, the shooting occurred around 12:10 a.m. on Friday morning. Police responded to a call from a location on Jordan Street and when they arrived, they were told the victim was lying in the street on Smith Street. Officers found the victim lying in the middle of the street, not breathing and unresponsive. They administered first aid, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Chief Simpson said that the incident may have been drug related and the case is still under investigation.
