Escambia County Department of Human Resources director Lynn Barnes and the local DHR office will hold a disaster food stamp program next week in the Damascus/Boykin area.
“Escambia County was declared a disaster area by FEMA and the state DHR office is working with local DHR programs here in Escambia County like they did with the ones in North Alabama,” Barnes said. “We just got the OK to do this and we are moving ahead with it.”
Barnes said the program will be held to work with the people in the Brewton and Atmore areas and will be held June 27 and 28.
“We are going to have the program Monday, June 27 from 12:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Tuesday, June 28 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.,” Barnes said. “We will meet at greater Mount Calvary Baptist Church on 13655 Highway 29 in the Damascus/Boykin area. They had the great power outages and damage so that is why we are having it there.”
Barnes said they will be screening applications and they only want people in the program who were affected by the tornado on April 15.
“We do not need people to come if they did not have any power outages or any damages from the results of this tornado on April 15,” Barnes said. “They do not need to show up. We are really not going to tolerate any fraudulent information.”
Barnes said people would need to have information with them when they come to the program next week.
“They need to have a valid photo ID,” Barnes said. “If they do not have any proper ID they need not to show up. Also, if they are already receiving any kind of state benefits or food stamp benefits, they do not need to show up. If you have any questions come and let us assist you at the site.”
