As we prepare for another Fourth of July weekend, we hope that everyone in our community remembers to stay safe this holiday.

With a drought continuing to plague our region despite the recent rains, we need to leave the fireworks to the professionals this year.

The Poarch band of Creek Indians is planning another wonderful celebration — complete with fireworks — and we hope everyone will enjoy it.

But with the potential for damage from fireworks — whether through injury or by starting a fire — we hope that residents will have their fun at the Poarch display and not with fireworks at home.
