Catherine Earle Cortelyou

Catherine Earle Cortelyou, a native of Blacksher, Alabama, and a long time resident of Atlanta, Georgia, passed away peacefully at Mobile Infirmary Hospital, Saturday, July 23, 2011.

Mrs. Cortelyou attended Rhodes College and Auburn University where she was a member of Tri Delta sorority. She was a dedicated teacher with the Atlanta Public School District for 33 years and was a member of the Atlanta Retired Teachers Association. She served as treasurer and was an active member of the Fort Mims Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She also was an active member of the Stockton Fine Arts Club and achieved distinction as a master gardener. She was a member of Peachtree United Methodist Church in Atlanta, Georgia.

Her husband, Raymond C. Cortelyou, and her parents Thomas John (Martha Mason) Earle, Sr. preceded her in death

Survivors include her sisters Martha Earle (William Calvin) Smith and Agnes Earle (Harry) Smith of Montrose; one brother Thomas John (Darlene) Earle, Jr, of Blacksher; three nieces, Catherine Smith Sherrill of Birmingham, Elizabeth Earle Corbett of Mobile, and Laura Elizabeth Smith of Tallahassee, Fla.; two nephews, William Calvin Smith IV of Daphne, and Thomas John Earle III of Atlanta, Ga.. She is also survived by five great nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. today, July 27, 2011 at Montgomery Hill Baptist Church. The family will receive friends in the Church Fellowship Hall following the service.
