Area teen charged with manslaughter

An area teenager faces charges as an adult after the shooting death of another teen their home.

Elena Janelle Rendell, 17, has been charged with manslaughter with a firearm, in connection with a shooting that left her 14-year-old foster sister dead. The charge is a second-degree felony and carries a sentence of up to a minimum 25-year mandatory prison stay.

According to reports by investigators, Rendell shot the foster sister Wednesday after the two got into an argument at their home in the Ferry Pass community.

Rendell was charged with aggravated battery as a juvenile Wednesday following the incident. The charge was upgraded Thursday morning after the younger teen died as a result of the shooting incident.

Bond was set at $300,000 in the case and Rendell was transferred to the adult detention center at the Escambia County Jail. She will face a judge in Escambia County, Fla., circuit court Aug. 18, according to reports.
