Sara Louise Muelling

Sara Louise Muelling, 57, died Sunday at her home in Opelika with her sisters and niece present. She was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, on May 12, 1954, to Sara Lisenby Muelling and Rudolph Julius Muelling, Jr.

She graduated from Troy State University and became a medical technologist. Deciding she wanted further education, she got a master’s degree to specialize in blood banking. She was the head of Hospital Services for the Red Cross in Montgomery and moved to Auburn in 1995 to work for LifeSouth, transferring from the LifeSouth laboratory in Montgomery.

She was a member of Cornerstone United Methodist Church and loved being a member of the Beth Moore Bible Study held there on Wednesday mornings.

She is survived by her sisters Cleone (Butch) of Auburn, Anna (Steve) of Menlo Park, California, two nieces Amelia (Auburn), and Allie (Portland, Oregon), a nephew Andrew (Menlo Park, California), and a special friend Connie Connelly (Winter Park, Florida).

A private service will be held on Thursday. She will be buried next to her mother at Town Creek Cemetery in Auburn, Alabama.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that remembrances be sent to Lee County Literacy Coalition, 2133 Executive Park Drive, Opelika, AL, 36801, or Mercy Medical Clinic, 1702 Catherine Court, Auburn, AL, 36830.
