NHS wins Classic

Northview’s Lady Chiefs volleyball squad showed promise in its annual Preseason Classic held Thursday at Northview High School in Bratt, Fla.

The Lady Chiefs hosted Central High School, Jay High School and Escambia (Fla.) High School in a four-team tournament.

In the championship game, the Lady Chiefs defeated the Jay Lady Royals two games to one as they fell in the first game 13-25; won the second game 25-22 and won the third game 15-8.

Leading the Lady Chiefs were juniors Morgan Payne, Misty Doran and Shelly Mothershed. Payne finished the game with two aces, three kills, two assists and one block. Doran posted 11 killds, two digs and one block, while Mothershed recorded five assists, two digs and one block.

Lady Chiefs sophomores Payton Hadley and Lily Townson both finished with two assists and one dig.

To reach the championship game, the Lady Chiefs opened the Preseason Classic with the Central Lady Jaguars beating them 25-21 in the first game and 25-22 in the second game.

Lady Chiefs junior Misty Doran led the Lady Chiefs with five kills, three digs, one block and an ace in the win.

Junior Taylor Roberson finished with two aces, while junior Shelly Mothershed finished with four assists.

Senior Josie Doucette recorded one kill and one dig, while sophomore Payton Hadley posted one ace and one assist.

The Lady Chiefs open their season with Catholic High School on Tuesday. The junior varsity plays at 5 p.m. with the varsity taking the court at 6 p.m.
