The deceased have been identified as Jeremy McNeil, 25, of Atmore; Ricky Herrera, 17, of Bay Minette; Coby Smith, 13, of Atmore. According to public safety  director Glenn Carlee a call came in to Atmore Police Department prior to the accident complaining of a car driving erratically in the Brookwood area. Carlee said it looked as if the boys were traveling at a high rate of speed when they left the road and collided with a tree. McNeil, Herrera and Smith died on the scene while the fourth passenger, Leonardo Cuenca, 18, of Atmore, was transported by Atmore Ambulance to Atmore Community Hospital and later moved to Sacred Heart Hospital. According to Sacred Heart personnel he is currently listed as being in critical condition.

Carlee said the APD “can’t speculate at this time” as to whether or not alcohol was involved.
