An Atmore woman was seriously injured Wednesday morning in a single-vehicle accident on Highway 97 in Walnut Hill.

Katherine S. Lee, 27, was taken by LifeFlight to Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola after being extracted from a 2001 Ford Mustang by Walnut Hill fire fighters.

According to officials with the Florida Highway Patrol, Lee was traveling north on Highway 97, approaching Highway 99, at 1:40 a.m. when her car left the roadway on the east shoulder and struck a concrete culvert before flipping and coming to a rest upright.

Although alcohol is not believed to be a factor in Wednesday’s accident, Lee has been charged with careless driving by the FHP.
