Two women were arrested and charged with distribution of drugs Monday morning — including one woman who was driving a van belonging to the drug treatment center where she works, police said.

Carol Brown, 46, of Brewton and Susanette Johnson, 47, of Century, Fla., were arrested after officers with the Flomaton Police Department and the Brewton Narcotics Division stopped the van on U.S. 29 in Flomaton.

“At about 10:30 a.m., Flomaton Police Chief Geoff McGraw made a traffic stop on a vehicle on U.S. 29 at the Kangaroo Gas Station in Flomaton,” said Sgt. Bryan Davis, head of the Brewton Police Department’s narcotics division. “The 2006 Ford van stopped belonged to the Lakeview Center Inc. in Pensacola and was being driven by Carol Brown. She is an employee at Lakeview Center in Century, Fla.”

During the traffic stop, McGraw was able to uncover information that indicated Johnson was brought to Flomaton for the purpose of selling drugs, Davis said.

” It appears that Brown had picked up Johnson Century and took her to Flomaton to sell Lortabs,” Davis aid. “Once in Flomaton, Johnson met with a subject and sold an undisclosed amount of Lortabs. After the sale was complete, Johnson and Brown then headed back to Century.”

During the traffic stop, officers found Johnson in possession of additional Lortabs and placed under arrest for unlawful distribution of a controlled substance (Lortab) and two counts of unlawful possession of a controlled substance (Lortab).

Brown was arrested and charged with criminal conspiracy to commit a controlled substance
crime (distribution).

Both Johnson and Brown were transported to the Escambia County Detention Center where they were booked on the charges against them.
