A home on McRae St. was destroyed by fire Sunday morning.

A home on McRae Street is considered a “total loss” after a large fire broke out Sunday morning, according to Atmore Fire Chief Gerry McGhee.

Fire departments from Atmore and Poarch responded to the blaze at 1:33 a.m. Sunday, where, McGhee said, fire fighters were finally able to extinguish the flames around 5:30 a.m.

The home was the residence of a family of five, including three children. Only one family member was home at the time of the fire. McGhee said the teenage boy was unharmed and found outside of the home when emergency personnel arrived on the scene.

American Red Cross representative Sandra Gray said the family is being aided by the Red Cross, and has been provided temporary lodging in a local hotel.

The cause of the fire has yet to be determined. The Alabama State Fire Marshall’s office has investigated the scene and, as of now, has ruled the cause as undetermined.
