ATMORE – Joey Dewayne Kelley was born on Wednesday September 13, 1961 and passed away peacefully of natural causes on Tuesday Oct. 11, 2011. He was born in Brewton, and later became a resident of Atmore, AL where he lived out the rest of his life.

Joey was a vivacious, fun-loving, and caring man. He was always there for anyone that needed him. He was the owner of many businesses throughout his years in Atmore.

He purchased the Strand Theater in 1985, started a construction business, opened Joey’s Furniture, Kelley’s Ambulance Service, Whistle Stop Grill, Advance Printing Company, and a few other ventures throughout his lifetime. Through these businesses he touched so many lives. He was involved in several charity events including the hurricane relief during Hurricane Ivan in which his businesses suffered much damage and also with Hurricane Katrina helping to deliver items to the affected and holding donation drives. He always put others first and wanted to see change and improvements for Atmore.

His hobbies included riding motorcycles, playing Texas Hold Em Poker, playing pool, traveling to new places, and anything to do with fixing or building things. His favorite thing was playing with his grandchildren and spending time with family. He was always pulling pranks and joking around. He found much joy in making others laugh and there was never a dull moment when he was around.

He was preceded in death by his father, Albert Sylvester Kelley, his mother, Mary Aline Johnson, and a brother, Tom Johnson. He is survived by 3 sons, Chad Wayne Kelley and wife Evelyn of Winchester, CA; Christopher Adam Kelley of Atmore, AL; Austin Suede Dakota “Cody” Mooney; 3 daughters, Jennifer Necole Daw of Atmore, AL; Chasity Kelley Daniel and husband David of Atmore, AL; Tiffany Denise Davis; 4 grandchildren, Damon, 11; Beau, 4; Crimson, 3; Aidan, 1; and his fiance’ Robin Cofield.

There will be a Memorial Service held on Wednesday Oct. 19, 2011 at Strand Theater in Atmore at 1 p.m. The family requests that in lieu of flowers that donations be made. A memorial fund in honor of Joey Kelley is held at United Bank.
