Victims of cancer will have a little help following a walk to the park and walk-a-thon held by the Women of Distinction this weekend.

The Women of Distinction will hold “A Walk to the Park” in order to raise funds for the American Cancer Society to go towards helping cancer patients around the city receive the necessary treatments.

The walk was originally for breast cancer, but was changed to benefit all types of cancer, Women of Distinction secretary Yolanda Webster said.

“We hold the annual walk-a-thon in order to raise money for cancer,” she said. “It started as breast cancer and breast cancer awareness, but we have individuals in the community that suffer from other types of cancer, so we went to a general cancer walk-a-thon. The purpose is to purchase gas cards for the patients in the Atmore area and surrounding areas, so they are able to make it to their treatments.”

The walk to the park will begin with registration at 10:30 a.m. at the Atmore Area YMCA.
