United Bank is taking advantage of this time of year in Alabama and using it to do some good in the Atmore community.

While most Alabama and Auburn football fans spend November bracing for the latest installment of the Iron Bowl rivalry, United Bank is encouraging the girdiron faithful to compete in another way.

Running Wednesday from 12:30 p.m. until 5:30 p.m., United Bank, in conjunction with the American Red Cross, hosted an Iron Bowl themed blood drive at their main branch on Nashville Avenue. Bank employees assisted in the drive and encouraged fans of both teams, along with anyone interested in donating, to visit and make a contribution.

The rivalry fun for a good cause will continue Thursday with an Iron Bowl tailgate party and canned food drive from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the bank. The public is invited to come and enjoy great food and family activities and make a donation of a non-perishable food item.

For every blood donation or 10 food donations, entries will be given for prizes, including a 46-inch flat screen TV perfect for watching the upcoming clash between the Alabama Crimson Tide and the Auburn Tigers.

United Bank officials said all blood donations could be beneficial to anyone in the community. All food donations will benefit Atmore Area Christian Care Ministries.
